I was at this summit for youth conference for my job and they had this art presentation by these teenagers and they were so fucking cute and SINCERE that I felt a little ashamed of myself for being such a grouchy "oh its nothing" artist. I hate those people, first of all for trivializing mental illness, and second for needlessly mystifying the process of writing. I write because I have stuff to say, and I'd like other people to hear it. There's nothing mystical about that. Somebody asked me (my grandmother I think) why I did that and I said "Because it is brown." "But it wasn't brown." "No, and white is a very bad colour for something to be when it's really brown." I got into taking a photo a day back in May 2006. I fell out of doing it when life got busy but I started up again in January when I realized I'd actually come to miss it. They don't all make it to my blog but do all end up in my flickr set. It's the best journal I've ever kept and it's amazing how even almost two years later I can remember a bit about each day thanks to having taken the photo. (and for now I'm just using a little 6 year old CanonPhotoshot... I'd love to upgrade but a grad-students budget doesn't always allow for these things) Best of luck with your project!
